You’ve decided to remodel your home and are interviewing contractors. But, how do you know which contractors will provide a dream experience and which ones will provide a nightmare? Let’s face it – the reality is that the home improvement industry has one of the highest complaint categories. So, before you remodel, check out your contractor’s BBB rating. You will be glad you did! Here’s why:
Overview of BBB Rating
According to the Better Business Bureau or the BBB, “the ratings it provides are the opinion of how the business is likely to interact with it’s customers.” This information is gathered from a variety of sources, including the businesses themselves, complaints received and public data sources. The rating system goes from A+ (highest) to F (lowest). An NR rating means that there was not sufficient information to provide a rating. A complete breakdown of the rating system can be found at bbb.org.
When consumers call or check the BBB website, they can obtain information about a business such as reviews, complaints, and how or if complaints were resolved. This information can be very helpful in deciding which contractor to select.
Any contractor should be able to provide you testimonials and references. But, you will want to dig a little further to check out a company’s track record. Google reviews are an excellent way to do this! Houzz also provides a review section on their website.
A remodeling project can be a pleasant or horrific experience. The contractor you choose will directly impact your experience. Do your homework!
